Brew at Home with FC Roast

Life’s too short to brew your coffee wrong. We’re here to spill the beans and help you get the most out of FC Roast - making every cup count.

Before you brew, there are a few things to know.

KEEP YOUR COFFEE FRESH

Use recently roasted coffee, ground straight away before brewing for maximum flavour profiles.

WATCH THE TEMP!

Brew with water heated to between 90°C and 96°C. If it’s boiling, let it sit off the heat before adding.

GET THE BALANCE RIGHT!

Aim for a ratio of 1 part coffee to 15-18 parts water, depending on how strong you like it.

STORE IT RIGHT!

Keep your coffee in an airtight container, out of direct sunlight, and away from heat and moisture.

Then it's time to sit back, relax, and enjoy the taste of FC Roast!

Espresso

Espresso is a classic, concentrated brewing method loved by many. Enjoy it as a standalone intense shot, or use it as the foundation for a latter, flat white, or americano.

Method

Prep the grounds: Weigh out 18g of extra fine ground FC Roast coffee beans. Distribute the grounds evenly in your portafilter basket before tampering.

The tamp: Ensure your tamper is perfectly level and apply firm, even pressure until you feel the coffee resist.

Flushing: Before locking in, run a small amount of water through the grouphead to flush out any old grounds and stabilise the temperature.

The pull: Insert the portafilter, place your cup on a scale beneath it, and press the brew button.

The target: Your final espresso should weigh 36g and the extraction should take between 25-35 seconds.

French Press / Cafetiere

The French Press (also known as Cafetiere) is the ultimate low-maintenance comfort brew. Because it uses a metal mesh filter rather than paper, it allows the coffee’s natural oils to pass through, bringing a rich, full-bodied cup with a heavy texture.

Method

Measure: Add 45g of FC Roast’s medium-coarse coffee into your brewer.

The pour: Pour in 800g of hot water and start a timer.

The steep: After 30 seconds, give the coffee a stir with a spoon to ensure all grounds are saturated, and place the lid on top but don’t plunge yet.

Plunge: Let it steep until your timer hits 6 minutes, then slowly press the plunger to the bottom of the brewer.

Now it’s time to pour and enjoy!

AeroPress

The AeroPress is a manual, travel-friendly favourite that uses air pressure to extract flavour quickly. It delivers clean, smooth cup coffee with minimal bitterness and minimal waste.

Method

Rinse: Place a paper filter into the cap of the Aeropress and rinse it with hot water.

Weigh: Measure out 18g of FC Roast’s medium-fine coffee.

Setup: Position the AeroPress is upside down, insert the plunger about 1cm into the brewing chamber to create a tight seal.

Add coffee: Pour the ground coffee into the chamber using the funnel, and give it a gentle shake to level the bed.

Brew: Start a timer and pour in 200g of hot water. Stir with the paddle to fully saturate all coffee grounds, then screw the filter cap on tight. Let it steep for 1 minute 30 seconds.

The plunge: Carefully flip the AeroPress right-side up onto your mug. Then gently press the plunger for 15 seconds, stopping when you hear a hissing sound.

Now, simply enjoy your fresh cup of FC Roast.

The automatic filter is one of the simplest, and most reliable ways to make fantastic coffee for the whole house.

V60

The V60 is a barista favourite. Its conical shape and filter highlight the bridge acidity, distinct tasting notes, and clean profiles of speciality coffee like FC Roast.

Method

Rinse and heat: Heat your water to 93°C. Place the filter into the V60 cone, and rinse with hot water.

Weigh: Add 20g of medium-fine FC Roast coffee to the filter and shake gently to level the grounds.

Bloom: Pour 60g of water to wet the coffee. Start a timer for 30 seconds and let it bloom to release trapped gas.

First pour: Gently pour water in a steady circular motion until the total weight reaches 200g.

Pulse pour: After one minute, the water should have drained slightly, and pour in a circular motion up to 350g. Repeat this process every 30 seconds until the weight reaches 500g.

Finish: The water should drain through the coffee bed by 3 minutes and 30 seconds to 4 minutes.

Then it’s time to enjoy the very best of FC Roast.

Moka Pot

The Italian Moka Pot is a classic that uses steam pressure to push boiling water up through a bed of coffee. It produces a thick, intensely concentrated, espresso-like brew that pairs well with milk.

Method

Preheat: Boil your kettle and fill the base of the Moka pot up to the top of the safety valve line with the hot water.

Weigh and fill: Add 20g-22g of fine ground FC Roast coffee to the filter basket. Level the grounds gently with your finger. Be careful not to tamp or push down as the coffee must stay loose so the water can pass through.

Assemble: Drop the filter basket into the base. Using a dry tea towel, hold the base and screw on the top chamber.

Heat: Place the pot over a medium heat. When you hear the water boiling below, lower the heat slightly. The coffee should begin oozing smoothly out the central spout.

Cutoff: Keep an eye on this process. As soon as the steam turns to a pale or yellowish colour and a sputtering or hissing sound is heard, remove the post from the heat and wrap the base in a cold, wet towel (or run the base under cold water) to stop the extraction.

Serve: Pour immediately and let it cool slightly before drinking.

At FC Roast, we believe that coffee should be more than fuel. That’s why we source with care, roast with purpose, and never cut corners. Life’s too short for bland coffee.
